Luna's Dually Chevy Van Project

Pics 1-5 The start of the project , the rear piece is added and the front end is added from a 1986

6,7 Work on the wheel well

8-The side door is shortened

9-10 Boy, its a long one, 20 feet bumper to bumper

11-Two powder coated rear ends, ready to attach, one is the original with all new gears and bearings and the rear (trailer axle sits above it)

12-The window frame that needs to be replaced sits in the van, ready to replace the rotted one

13-The windshield frame that is rotted - it's worse than what you see

14-Looking at the side door frame, I ran steel sign posts up both sides with nuts welded behind them, any attachments doing the interior will be easy to bolt to these frames, as well as the stabilization they give to the sides, the slight bend of the van prevents me from running it totally straight.

15-Another view, the original metal was totally rotted out all around the gutter area, the gutter above this doorway remains but not much, i will be able to hide most of it with the new roof, here you can see where i have added the door jams from yet another donor van to shorten up the doorway

16- Looking under the wheel well. You can see where i slammed in a bit of 1/4 inch steel to support the floor, and the angle iron has a corresponding one on the inside, bolted thru, to support the wheel well metal In the center of the pic you can see the other leaf spring holder in place ,from yet another donor van, this is for the rear axle at this point most of the underside has been sand blasted and undercoated the frame from the original 76 wasnt in bad shape due to the rusty jones or whatever undercoating they originally used

17-Two gull wings one is the side, the thinner one, the other the rear.
You can also see some of my wall of fame/shame , if the garage fit the van I'd be done by now.

18-Marley wants to go vanning, you can see the points where the tip down front still needs to be streamlined and finished as well as the old window frame.

19-Front end work - RIP King, I miss you

20-Front end , 86 had to be modified as the frame was different than the 76
i have switched to heavier hinges from side doors instead of the old hood hinges

21-Fitting front end still ,and you can see the wheel flairs I have for all the wheels. as well as running boards that will be installed later 22-Close up shot of my 'garage"-King and marley underneath . Wish it was summer again!!!!!

The driver and passengers door are all done and primered in the garage.

23-More work, this is an older pic.
Now that i have a shell of a van almost complete all I need is wires , brake lines, brakes, a gas tank, fuel lines, an engine, I have the extra parts of the roof and I'm gonna try to monster garage some kinda T- top or slider roof in the spring.

I had to remove and replace all door steps, passenger, drivers, and slider due to Chevy Vans rotting completely below the floor, also all lower body panels outside and behind .
Did I bite off more than i can chew? Probably ,but I'm chewing slowly and I will finish it, anybody wanna bite?

Come on down!!
